The end of the SEXTY series, which I think wraps up quite nicely with a more detailed experience of the virtual reality future that lies before us all, and leaving with a fire and brimstone ending. I was never sure who the other male character here is. A friend, but left vague and open, as it wasn't actually based on anyone, as some of the characters in this book tend to be versions of all of them.
Charles came up with an idea to cheat the devil. When he was sixty, and infinitely wealthy, he created a way to bring his younger self to the end of time in order to fulfill his part of the bargain. Theoretically he is now free in 2036 with decades of his life to go, knowing that his younger self must survive the task in order for him to have created a means to transport his younger self there in the first place.
Could the Devil be tricked via Space Time Paradox? It was a gamble, but one he would take, if it meant reclaiming his soul. And reality, well, as young Charles is about to find out, humanity is moments from extinction, the world now desolate and destroyed.
